Lost and Found: Navigating the Journey Back to Self

Updated: Apr 2

Did you ever play hide and seek as a child?

There was something magical about finding the perfect hiding spot, feeling the rush of anticipation as you waited to be discovered. But even when you were lost, there was a comforting certainty that you would eventually be found.

As we navigate the complexities of adulthood, that sense of inner security can escape us. We become entangled in the demands of daily life and the pressures of societal norms, losing sight of our true selves and the innate wisdom that once guided us effortlessly.

Growing up means encountering moments of feeling adrift, disconnected from that instinctive knowing that defined us when we were younger. Unlike the unwavering confidence we embodied as children, we now grapple with doubts and uncertainties about who we are and where we belong.

The demands of external expectations and the daily grind can create a superficial safety net to keep everything around us running. But we lose touch with how to keep ourselves running, we disconnect with the ‘glimmers’ that ignite and fuel our passions.

“Glimmers: Micro-moments that spark feelings of joy or peace, bringing your nervous system into a calm, regulated state” (Oprah Daily)

It is those glimmers that connect the dots towards re-discovering ourselves and realigning with our ‘bigger why,’ the meaning of our lives. Imagine a dark sky, each ‘glimmer’ lights up one star at a time, steadily shining a light on our unique path, allowing our ability to see it and follow it.

Permitting ourselves to create space initiates a sense of inner trust and connection to cultivate the courage to venture into the unknown. Knowing that we are not starting from the beginning, but meeting ourselves where we are, with all the experiences we have had in our lives.

"Courage doesn't always roar, sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, I'll try again tomorrow." (Mary Anne Radmacher)

Encouraging ourselves to embrace the playfulness and experimentation of trying new things, knowing that even if we feel lost, we will ultimately rediscover and recognise ourselves within.

Venturing into the unknown may lead to moments of confusion, yet our willingness to explore signifies a journey toward a fresh sense of self, integral to carving out our path.

This is a self that craves both the thrill of being lost and the joy of being found, a self eager to create and engage, a self waiting to be fully felt, lived, and seen.
