A Simple Message of Hope.

When I sat down to finish my newsletter earlier today, the topic I had originally chosen felt disconnected from what many of us have felt this weekend.

Concern. Worry. Discombobulated by the unpredictability of world events.

Like many of us, I have felt the weight of it too — a heaviness that is hard to ignore.

As my husband is in Dubai right now, this week feels more personal, and I wanted my words to reflect that.

As I often do in challenging times, I look to my favourite poets and head out into nature.

Words seem to soothe my soul, and this morning, I found solace in Emily Dickinson’s poetry — particularly Hope is the thing with feathers, which I share below.

When division and uncertainty make us feel isolated or unsettled;

Hope is the strength that keeps us going.

Hope is the light that reminds us who we are and what we are capable of.

Our strength as humans lies in our capacity to feel, to connect, and in our unwavering ability to care and to love.

It is in these simple human capacities that resilience takes root. From there, hope is not something we search for — it is something we always have within us.

Just like the new bulbs pushing through the soil in the garden this morning — rising through rain and wind with determination – their persistence felt like a small but steady sign of resilience.

Wherever you are in the world today, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well.

I hope you take away the same warmth and comfort from this poem that I did.

Hope is the thing with feathers ~ Emily Dickinson

Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul,

And sings the tune without the words,

And never stops at all.

And sweetest in the gale is heard;

And sore must be the storm

That could abash the little bird

That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,

And on the strangest sea;

Yet, never, in extremity,

It asked a crumb of me.
