As always, October seems to arrive in the blink of an eye. September is often a month of finding our feet again — settling into new rhythms: back to school, a new job, more layers, darker evenings.
Whatever the specifics are for each of us, this time of year is a transition. How we set ourselves up for the months ahead makes a real difference.
Recently, I’ve started making one small but powerful shift.
Instead of looking at all the weekends left before the end of the year and filling them with plans, I’m blocking out quiet afternoons here, slow mornings there — intentional space to pause.
It feels at odds with how I’ve always approached this time of year, yet deep down there’s a sense of peace and gratitude in choosing differently.
In this wild ride of life, we must learn to listen beyond the noise of the mind — and tune into the quiet intelligence of the body.
Creating intentional space in which to listen is our pathway to peace.
As the late, great Dame Jane Goodall reminded us:
“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
When we choose rest, reflection, and presence — even in small ways — we shape not only how we feel, but how we show up in the world around us.
So my question to you is this:
How will you spend your time and energy in the coming months?
